The smartphone learns your preferences, checks that the store has the goods at the best price, reserves the quantity you want, maybe even has them packaged for you, pays the store, tells them when you're coming to pick them up, receives special discount coupons the store sends to lure you in knowing that special wine you like... The number of possible apps is endless.

My phone is already well capable to do all those things. Did you shop online this decade? Some of the services you mention are already provided by a variety of store-chains. Some are not, which can either mean there's no demand for those services or maybe are currently in the making. Not that I think a phone is the most convenient device for it, but it's perfectly capable. None of these things need anything new in terms of phone capability.

Gotta run, I just got a mail from Best Buy that my gift certificate is expiring soon...
