The son of the founder ran the company for years, he retired and resigned his position on the BOD around ~2002 I believe. Recently he wrote a book about the 'downfall' of BBY. TMF has an interview with him in their podcasts, it's fairly recent, within the past few months.

I didn't read the books but listened to the interview and the impression I got was that he feels Amazon, etc contributed to the downfall, it was largely management issues.
