The stuff I gather is at the high-tide line and has usually been rained on by the time I pick it up. When I get it home, I usually leave it on the ground away from the garden for a few days before digging it in. I used to rinse it first with the hose, but read that the residual salt would quickly leach away anyhow, so haven't done that the last few years.
