The UC Regents need to face reality. At the same time they were made double digit increases in tuition, they created a $300K position. Assuredly there are too many/overpaid administrators, but the state money used to support the UC system has been absolutely gutted over the last 20 years. The national consensus (with which I disagree) seems to be that while K-12 education is a public good and should be supported as such, higher education is strictly a private good with no greater public benefit. As such, its budget is first on the chopping block.Ironically, in California anyway, my anecdotal experience is that many of the people (often professionals) who are all for defunding UC and CSU received their own highly subsidized educations at these same institutions. But hey, they got theirs, right?AI
