The Uffizi is one of my very favorite museums in the world. The painings speak for themselves for anyone who has ever studied art history. You can do the whole museum in one day. The Uccellos are particularly nice (love the power of his horses) and there are any number of magnificent portraits by many Italian masters.

In addition to the art, there is a modest little restaurant on the roof. Get yourself a bottle of wine and a nice salad and sit up there soaking in a magnificent view of the Duomo!

I hope you get more than one day in Florence. Ghiberti's doors and the Duomo are must sees. Also Accademea, to see David. I would say don't miss Italy's first public library, designed by Michaelangelo...

Take the city bus to Fisoli for Roman ruins, beautiful views, a Leonardo Museum....

Gotta see the Piti Palace and the Biboli Gardens....

...be sure and eat a lot of gelato....
