The USPTO knows they are not flawless in researching ideas and the law is even less clear on guiding the attorney who approves/rejects it.

BTW, we had the Undersecretary of The Patent Office as a guest at FIRST this year. He said one of the things they are desperately in need of is engineers. He said they don't have anywhere near the amount of engineers they need to handle the patent applications coming through.
