The very first time I tried to update the maps I got a message that said there wasn't enough room on the device to hold the data. Great. A lifetime update of maps that I can't use.

Same thing here. I tried various remedies: first, I bought a 2G memory card. Still not enough. So I bought a 4G (the unit can only access 3 of it, but what the heck, it was only $8 or so.) STILL not enough.

So I gave up and downloaded just "half" of the US, the half I drive in most frequently obviously.

A couple days ago the Garmin told me my maps were out of date (more than two years old) and I should "update" them as soon as possible.

I almost threw the thing through the windshield.

(It's particularly noticeable when I use "points of interest" It's clear that I am using a 4 year old database on the Garmin, which is fine for national parks and such, but not when I'm trying to locate a business which has moved (or gone under). The function on the iPhone is, of course, up to date because it's housed on a central server which they can update, rather than on my Garmin which - I can't.)
