Pepsi says no indication FTC blocking Quaker deal
Thursday May 10, 12:16 PM EDT

CHICAGO, May 10 (Reuters) - Soft drink maker PepsiCo Inc. (PEP) on Thursday said it was not by told by federal regulators of any plans to recommend blocking Pepsi's $13.8 billion takeover of food and sports drink manufacturer Quaker Oats Co. (OAT)

"We have not been advised by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) staff that they plan to recommend to block the merger," Pepsi spokesman Dick Detweiler told Reuters. "We have been in contact with them as recently as this morning. We are continuing our dialogue with the Commission to reach a mutually acceptable outcome."

Detweiler's remarks follow reports that antitrust regulators have concerns about the deal. The FTC's five-member commission is scheduled to vote in the next several weeks on whether it should go to court to block the transaction.
