There is much more to the puzzle here...
Look back on airline history to find out how this will play out...true that unions can strangle the growth potential of a company...but several things come to mind..

1. unions came as a result of reckless mgmnt that made millions on the backs of the labor that made it possible.

2. trust me when I say ... you don't want to have an airline industry that does not have a union...unbeknownst to many...the union ALPA is actually the responsble party for the safe skies that we enjoy in this country...not the FAA...

3. You get what you pay for...you want low cost airlines ... you will get low cost performance and dismal results...

Mgmnt needs to settle these contracts NOW and let the folks who are responsible for making UAL the leader that it has been get back to the business of being a leader...lets pay the industry std and lets show the employees of UAL that they are valuable assets they are...senior level mgmnt can stop this nonsense in a swipe of the pen...
