There isn't a simple answer, IMHO. It depends on a lot of things - why are they in debt is the start, is it bad luck or irresponsibility?Also, what is the situation for housing in their community? Is rent sky-high? Are real estate prices totally ridiculous?What about the personal situation? There are people who may have very compelling personal reasons to want a house, and who will straighten up for the express purpose of having something that is so important to them.I think it's something that needs to be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
