There must be some sort of router available that he can use that will allow him to connect both the Xbox and computer to the same internet connection.

Router to modem connection should be USB.
Xbox to router connection should be Ethernet (or wireless).
Computer to router continues to be USB (may need some sort of USB to ethernet converter cable).
