There was an article in the Washington Post today, Aug 31, about including the military personnel into the TSP program which is the Federal civilian employees 401 plan. The concern is the increase in cost of managing the TSP fund with all of the various branches of service, reserves and national guard that could participate for only a few weeks or months in the year. The Post article stated that Congress is looking at ways to fund the increase in costs for the military participates without killing the advantages of current low cost TSP program for the Civilian sector. Go to WashingtonPost.com to read the article. Personally, I hope that something can be worked out to add all military personel to the TSP. Currently, Federal civilian personnel working for the Services can participate as they have a different retirement system than the military employees. Hopes this helps. Hang in there. I believe it will happen this year or next year.
