They seem to find themselves in a society that does not resemble a New Testament Church.

Ephesus. They lost their first love, and their worship became form; ritual.

Pergamos. By compromise, they embraced sexual immorality and the worship of something other than He who created them.

Sardis. Christians in name only, their works betrayed their emptiness.

Laodicea. Rich, wealthy, and in need of nothing... or as you put it

... American Christians who have power, authority, and earthly acceptance.

American Christians resemble several New Testament churches.
