This is a subject I've been thinking about. At a recent education session for Stephen ministers (lay people who are Christian care-givers on a one-to-one basis), we talked about ministering to the elderly. One of the losses of the elderly is loss of the feeling of being useful. Last Sunday, I sat by an elderly woman who is almost blind and pretty much homebound. I've gotten to know her over the years and visit with her every Sunday. Last Sunday I asked her if she could pray for my family with all the back to school activities this week and for my son who was starting middle school. I think she was pleased to be asked to do something specific that she was able to do.Another thing I learned in my ministry training. . .often no one touches older people, especially those who live alone. I'm not a huggy, touchy kind of person. But I started giving my church friend a hug every week. It's obvious she wants a hug!Live and learn.Gail
