This is how Democrats, and they were all Democrats, lynched people in the years following the Civil War. They forgot that the accused has rights. They became inflamed by some accusation and went out and killed the accused without any due process, probably based on some lie or exaggeration.
I live in the south and have for almost 50 years. All those Democrats after the civil war you are talking about? They still live here -- have not forgotten the civil war and what it was about -- and they are REPUBLICANS now. Acting just like you describe albeit without the killing, just character assignation, racial profiling and hatred.

Don't talk about Democrats today as if they are the same as 150 years ago. Just as someone shouldn't be talking about Republicans today as if they are the same over time. Richard Nixon is not the most beloved President ever, but I would take him today over Bush 43 ANY DAY. He signed the bill creating the USEPA after a Democratic congress passed it -- one of the best agencies this country has had. In just a few decades we have reversed tons of pollution and degradation, strengthened the rights of people to have clean water, air, soil, ecosystems protection and many, many more accomplishments. Sure there is more to do. It is a big country and Republicans have been in charge too many times, putting in ineffectual leaders and placing anti environmental people in the agency. The agency isn't perfect, but then no corporation is either. Far from it.

I can think of a lot of past Republican Presidents and congressmen/senators I would rather have than today's group. I still maintain that something happened in the 1980s that ruined Republicans and I believe it started with a few people like Lee Atwater, Roger Ailes, their disciples and political hate & lie machine.
