This is just off the top of my head. What about getting a cheap flight from London to Miami, Florida, and then renting a car and driving up the coast to Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina? There are lots of beaches along the way, some of which are not crowded even yet, but are still close to amenities. Those two cities are filled with U.S. history. In the other direction from Miami you have the Everglades and the Florida Keys. You could take diving lessons, perhaps, or just swim on the reefs with snorkels.Miami itself has the large Cuban community which you would likely find interesting and perhaps exotic, and there are plenty of Beautiful People on Miami Beach. From what I read, package holidays from Britain to Florida are very popular, so I expect any travel agent could help. I'm not advocating a package, though. Nor would I suggest getting hotel reservations, except for the first and last nights, and maybe in Key West if you went there. I have always found that stopping early almost certainly guarantees you a room.
