This is the statement on the page: "each state is No. 1 in some kind of environmental or public health initiative." So best used book stores don't count. But I have been to all of those book stores Art mentioned and he is not exaggerating. They are awesome.

I looked up the Upworthy source and it is Mother Nature Network. So what does that mean? Scientific study? No. It appears to be local correspondents or bloggers. Someone like you or me. I never intended for anyone to take that maps link to be some sort of fact based information. Just so you know. Many of the stories might be taken from other news sources and be just as true as the originals. I can't tell.
Which brings up a good question: how do you decide if what you are reading is true or not? Not everything is on Snopes.

Here's their 'About Us' webpage:

MNN STATE REPORTS
CHOOSE A STATE, AND GET INFORMED!
Learn about local environmental happenings, natural resources, green businesses, local foods and even farmers markets in your town. Along the way, meet our local correspondents, who are blogging about events across the nation. We want to hear from you, too. Here's the Georgia page, which looks pretty good to me.
