This isn't quite as dumb as it sounds.

In the context of weight management, if someone is going to the gym with the intention of burning a whole slew of calories.....and they're hoping to avoid the compensatory effects from their time there, they're going to have to be in pretty good shape in order to a) burn the calories they believe they are in the first place, and b) be in even better shape in order to resist the temptation to eat the contents of their refrigerator and lie on the couch for the rest of the day.
