This month, I mailed in a check for half of the balance on the 7th - 2 days before the payment deadline. Mysteriously, they didn't credit my account until the 13th.

What's the mystery? You only mailed it two days before the due date by snail mail when the snails are also handling umpteen ka-billion Christmas cards.

Today, I activated my new MBNA LLBean card, 0% interest on balance transfers until 10/6, and promptly paid off the dirtbags' account.

Looks like all you did was switch snakes. If you want to keep that BT rate you'd better not wait two days before a monthly due date or you could be doing another post here really soon.
