This previous reply was a bit mean spirited in these days of outrageous medical costs. I had insurance that paid the MD for the procedure twice and twice denied the health facility their money. It's all good, for I got the same carrier later for more of my failing parts.

There is usually a discount for cash payments. Insurance pays not near what your bill reads.. so you use that and start talking to the office manager, or find out who the billing company is.

Ensure the collection, if there is one, will be deleted from the report. None of this crap about .."Paid collection." They write they will delete or they don't get a dime. Be polite but firm.

Don't contact them till cash in in your hand. Offer immediate payment upon written assurances all will be well after this instance of being underinsured.

The man I lived with kept bills under his bed for many years, due to a local hospital visit without insurance. He paid a few dollars at a time, and they were glad to take him back in when he was stricken with ca years ago.

wild :)
