This thread brings up one of my own questions, not about the rules of the game but about media culture:

Why do highlights shows and news broadcasts always show home runs? I mean, they're fine and dandy, and when my team has runners on and a slugger at bat I lust after a good shot into the bleachers, but on the excitement scale there are other plays that will beat it. A good triple or squeeze play, for instance, really gets the blood flowing, or a diving outfield catch followed by doubling the base runner, or a blown bunt that ends up a comedy of errors are all more interesting to me to watch than a homer.

Just my oh-so-humble opinion,
