This would seem to indicate a regular MBP would not be supported?

Not by default, but it's easy to enable it.

In Terminal:

defaults write EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true
defaults write ODSSupported -bool true

... and reboot.

Holy hidden secrets!!!! And the MBP is slightly different than my MB, even a year apart. Apparently, my older (late 2008) MB has it enabled, and the newer MBP does not. Lack of consistency is not something I like .
