Whatever you do, do not let the Atlanta Thrashers get to overtime. The Thrashers are 4-0 when the opposing team is unable to take the game in regulation. That's two OT wins at home and two shut-out wins on the road.

The Thrashers are also 4-0 when center Todd White scores. But he doesn't score enough.

Marion Hossa hasn't scored enough either, so the solution is to take a penalty and let him groove on a short handed goal. He has 11 over the last 3 seasons. His game-tying goal from behind the net with 2.6 seconds remaining in regulation was a power play goal, however, with a 6 on 4 advantage.

Steve McCarthy managed 12:20 in ice time last night and managed to not lower his +/- rating. Like the market, it had to bottom out eventually.

Eric Perrin has an assist on all three short handed goals this year.

The Thrashers finally out shot the opposing team last night, the 18th game of the season.

Tobias Enstrom leads the team on ice, an average of 22:48 per game, and is tied with Niclas Havelid at +4.

Rookie goalie Ondrej Pavalec went 3-0 in his first starts before falling to the Hurricanes.

Atlanta is 5-1 in games that are not televised locally. Someday someone can explain to me how a home game isn't shown locally. Unfortunately, all but 2 games between now and the end of 2007 will be televised.

Ilya Kovalchuk's game winning slap shot 25 seconds into overtime was so hard that when it hit Panther goalie Brett McLean's glove, it broke the bone in his ring finger. Kovalchuk has 13 points over his last six games while lining with Hossa.

The Thrashers, who started the season 0-6 before firing former coach Bob Hartley, are now 8-10 under interim coach and GM Don Waddell, and 2 points out of a playoff spot, and one point behind 2nd place Tampa Bay in the Southeast. They are 4-1 in their 5 recent division games.

Who notes this team still has problems but it is slowly chirping its way through them and the rest of the league had best keep an eye looking over their shoulder...
