Maybe things are simple for step parents who only see their stepkids every other weekend, I wouldn't know. With my stepkids, things have never been so easy. We take my stepson at least 3 weekends, whenever he is sick or his mom is disgusted with him, and at least 60% of vacations and holidays.

My stepson and I are relatively close. As close as any 13 year old boy can be with his stepmom. I have been his stepmom since he turned 3 years old. We have the same tempermant and enjoy the same games. His mom likes me when she doesn't feel like he likes me better. Lately, she does not like me. I know this has more to do with him being 13 years old. He in no way sees me as a replacement for his mom.

My challenge today involves calling him/her. I am trying to plan a vacation in June to the beach and I need to know some things from him in order to book some of the activities. Although inconvient, I could wait until he is back over here. I just don't like it that I don't feel comfortable about calling him now. Yes, my husband could call. Although, my husband won't.

Why is it that after over 10 years of being this boy's stepmom, calling him will start a fight?
