Thx TJS..you said....

From your previous post it appears you plan to delay social security. So you would be planning to obtain medicare. You can do this online.

https://www.ssa.gov/medicare/
You can use our online Medicare application if you:

Are at least 64 years and 9 months old;
Want to sign up for Medicare but do not currently have ANY Medicare coverage;
Do not want to start receiving Social Security benefits at this time; and
Are not currently receiving Social Security retirement, disability or survivors benefits.

You will be able to have medicare send you a monthly paper bill or have the medicare premium for part-B taken from your checking account. I did the later. You will be required to send 2 or 3 months of premiums in, I cannot remember which, as it takes awhile for the federal government to set the automatic withdrawals up. You will receive a monthly reminder by mail that the medicare premium withdrawal from your checking account is coming up.

I believe it takes 5 working days for the decision for medicare eligibility to be made after you file online.

checklist on information you will need for applying online:

I won't be claiming Medicare until next year...I may have misunderstood you from reading the above but I was hoping to make a claim on behalf of my wife who is over 65.
