As a Canadian I have watched the value of my U.S. holdings fall simply because of the exchange rate. CAD is booming now and the USD is falling. Some say it could far further.

America has deteriorating relations now with most countries of power including Russia and China. Bush is threatening an attack on Iran. Chavez believes there was CIA involvement in the attempted coup in Venesuala. From what I have read, should all these countries decide to trade oil in euros rather and USD, then the US dollar would plummet.

Not to mention sky-rocketing US debt, one unending war and possibly another one around the corner.

What is a non-American to do? Is it better to keep my hard earned CAD off of American exchanges?

Also, does the invisible hand of the marketplace protect my investment in Canadian companies that are listed on US exchanges? I would think so because Canadian companies count their money in CAD therefore the US market must increase the company valuation based on the CAD earnings. But I'm not sure.
