Times have changed since Chrysler, and the Government doesn't have the money to bail out the pension funds of bankrupt companies to which they are already obligated, let alone GM. If I recall correctly, the government has changed some of the ways it awards defense contracts. Now, a lot of contracts go out to a number of people who only produce a small bit of a contract.I believe back then, Chrysler had the contract for the production of the militaries tanks...all the components. The government could not afford to let Chrysler fail while the feared Red Horde was cranking out tanks like they were M&Ms.
