Subject: Title search before buying auction property? Date: 1/17/2013 9:01 AM

We have been watching the foreclosed homes auction website in our county and have finally found a house we are interested in bidding on. This will be an investment property - we are going to make it into a rent house. I went through the website's training on how to buy these homes, but they were a little vague about having a title search done before you bid. (I think they just sort of mentioned it briefly)

Have any of you done this? Do I just call a title company out of the yellow pages and ask them if they do a title search on a property before I bid on it. I thought I would ask you guys before I called and looked like an idiot.....

Any other advice on this? We are intensive DIY'ers and this house looks pretty good (needs a few minor repairs and paint), so we are very confident of what price we will be bidding and how much the house is worth. We are just a little nervous about making sure it is a clear title. Thanks for any thoughts!
