Retail Chain Owner TJX February Same-Store Sales Up 1 Percent

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) -- Retail chain owner TJX Cos. said Thursday its same-store sales -- at stores open at least a year -- rose 1 percent in February.

Analysts, on average, were expecting a slightly lower increase of 0.8 percent, according to a poll by Thomson Financial.

Total sales for the month climbed 6 percent to $1.1 billion compared to last year.

The company, which owns discount clothing retailers T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, said the month's same-store sales were in line with its conservatively planned expectations.
