Bravo Pixy! Although I retired in mid-year 1999 and didn't realize that my Social Security earnings would be taxed because of my pre-retirement earnings, I think what you had to say was right on. It also needs to be repeated throughout the land. There are too many of us who have good intentions about saving, but when push comes to shove, we don't discipline ourselves. Social Security is a safety net for quite a few. I found your data on 401 (k) rollover failures to be upsetting. I know some of these people personally! (I also worry about their future financial security.)
