To a degree, I agree. But gratitude and payback should not equal a blank check.I don't want a blank check. I want the thing filled in, just like I was promised, for all those year I worked without a pension and without a 401k. You forget that previous generations didn't have the benefit of being able to contribute to a tax-deferred pension plan. The productivity of the American worker wasn't great enough that such a thing was possible. Many of our parents and grandparents were lucky to have food on the table. The idea of owning a home, or even a TV, was just an empty wish. Social Security isn't gratitude, it's a debt.Hedge
