To all: I think there are many good reasons to have financial assistance, particularly as we age, but I believe we (the owners of the portfolio) should get value for what we pay in fees. I'm not sure that's always the case. I use Vanguard because of low fees, but the time could come where I won't be able to even bathe myself, so having a financial advisor might make sense. Then again, I also could use my son or his wife, and his wife is an accountant, so I think that's the way we'll go when the time comes. After all, they are going to inherit whatever is left when DW and I are gone, so they'll have a self interest in taking care of our money. I just hope they remember to take care of us as well, but I fully and completely trust my son and his wife.
