Tony, I have had pretty decent results with a popcorn popper made to use in the microwave, with ordinary popcorn. It takes 3 minutes or less, requires no intervention (but you should stay near the microwave in order to stop it as soon as everything that is going to pop has popped), and works as well as the popcorn itself will allow.
