Tony,
There has been a lot of talk over on the Buying and maintaining a New Car board. Check it out.

I have started the process (still haven't bought due to money and waiting for new models) and have dealt with several of the on-line services. I plan on working them against each other as you would do in the fax-a-thon process described elsewhere in the process. There are some dealerships that will beat any of the web prices, but unfortunately that has only worked for some of my co-workers who have purchased more available vehicles (such as Ford Explorer XLT). One interesting thing we found was that some dealers don't want to talk to you after they hear that you've done research on the web. Guess they are only looking for uninformed consumers who think that paying 500 below MSRP is a great deal.

What kind of vehicle are you looking for? The Edmunds boards have lots of buyers tales as well, from people scattered around the country and Canada.

Best of luck,

Tom
