Too bad Akers is having such a lousy season. They would have won both Rams games if he was playing like he did last year.Yes, it now looks like Akers won a ton of games for the 49ers last season. He was MONEY. And a defense that was #1 in takeaways helped make the QB look good too. This year, both are gone. And both QB's have about the same stats. From a long-term perspective, playing Kaepernick lets you find out what you have come playoffs and off-season. And short-term... with more starts this year, Kaepernick should develop a better playbook with his coaches and better leadership with his teammates. Risk/Reward seems better with Kaepernick, although the beta is higher. I think that most of the case for Smith rests on the assumption that this year's supporting cast is like last year's. So I say stick with Kaepernick until enough losses make a playoff spot look questionable, and then if they make the playoffs then reevaluate the starter at that time. But they need to start resting Gore or they won't go far in the playoffs with either QB. And resting Gore, with Hunter now out, means throwing more. I don't want Smith throwing more.--Rod
