transpires that she'd had bariatric surgery a year ago, dropped over 100lbs with another hundred and change to go. Prior to surgery she was on meds for high BP and insulin for T2D and now totally off everything. Apparently, just like in the Newcastle study, this reversal happened before significant weightloss occured.


In terms of type 2 diabetes, this has been in the literature for a while now, and was all over the popular press when the first studies appeared. The diabetes reverses after bariatric surgery, before there has been significant weight loss.

When you think about it, the altered biochemistry engendered by the sudden extraordinary reduction in food intake--at a given time, and overall--must be enormous. The weight loss adds to this, but doesn't initiate it.
