Two sayings I remember my dad used to say were "Don't be facetious!" and "Don't wish your life away!"

At the time I'm not even sure I knew what "being facetious" meant?

Artie

Ah, the old "Don't wish your life away." Whenever I would say something like, "I wish it was Friday" when it was only Monday or Tuesday, my mom would use that one on me. (She attributed the saying to my aunt Jennie.)

One my dad used to say to my mom: "Money burns a hole in your pocket." Dad was very frugal and liked to save... my mom, on the other hand, liked to spend money as soon as she got it.

When I was a kid, not yet understanding figures of speech, I took the "burns a hole" part literally, and found it scary. <grin>
