Unfortunately, the Federal Government does not agree. It is still Federally illegal to sell even medical marijuana, and the Feds do not recognize same-sex marriage (remember the Defense of Marriage Act passed during the Bush regime?)
The genie is out of the bottle and it ain't going back in. This is like the civil rights struggle. Actually it is the civil rights struggle. People fought like bloody hell to keep schools segregated but today the idea of re-segregating schools is laughable. The only reason to argue that black kids shouldn't go to the same schools as white is kids boils down to "we've always done it that way." Once you haven't done it that way for a while, that argument goes away as well. Schools were integrated in my lifetime. Change happens fast once the first steps are taken.
Same with gay rights and gay marriage. There is no rational argument why gays shouldn't have the same rights as everyone else. People may try, but no one will ever be successful in taking away legal rights for gay people now those rights have been established. Other states will follow soon, and so will the federal government.
It is a pretty great day. I'm really proud it happened in my state.
