Unfortunately the Vanguard assets were sold and have been sitting in cash for two months. Even worse, my daughter's UTMA account netted $9k in capital gains which will result in taxes this year. We likely would have paid those taxes at some point, but it was an error between Vanguard and the advisor just the same.

Strike one for the advisor.

Did your adviser ever claim that he would be tax efficient? We have had to sit ours down and tell him we wanted him to be so, discuss with him how he is to do it. Fortunately, he beats the market after fees, so we continue to work with him, but we do not eliminate the idea of taking back the investing reigns when life slows down a bit.
