...unplug and get a "real life"?

Are you nuts?!

And if the nest egg ever gets to $2 M, where that 2% alpha would start to make a difference, do you think I'll still be slugging it out in the rat race so I can buy a 4-bathroom mansion? Hardly. I'll be retired and trying to figure out how to sustain a 4% draw without losing principal.

For me, this is what it's all about.

I've gotten back-handed the last few months, but that's OK. I've learned some very valuable lessons, both about the funny markets and about my own emotional disposition. I figure it'll take 10 to 25 years to get our $2 million nut together, and I want to spend the time between now and then making the really stupid errors so that I can avoid them when it matters.

The air is perfectly dead tonight, our thermostat indicated the temprature pegged at 90 degrees all day and is still in the upper 80s now at 10:20pm: hot day & night in the East Bay. Half of what we own has found its way into boxes, and the rest of it lies scattered throughout the apartment. It all goes into a truck Sunday, we'll drive it down Monday, and unpack it Tuesday.

For the first time since we married, the li'l missus & I will not share walls with anyone else: instead of "Apartment," we get to play "House"!
