Dear Short Term Traders,I have a quick question for you. I have been reading on this board quite a bit and am a little confused about the posts on the upgrades, downgrades, etc. As short term traders, do you act on these Upgrades/Downgrades? I understand the effect that these analysts have on the stock price, but am confused as to how short term traders react to these ratings. Thanks for any help!Cap58
Cameron,Welcome to the board and to answer your question I definatly use Dougs up/down/initiate posts. I plan on posting a detailed report on how they have helped for the year, but I use them in conjunction with S&P and Thompsons and Medveds, report/evaluations. Needless to say Due Diligence (DD) is involved and many are weeded out but I usually wind up with 3 to 5 every day that I put on a watch to buy list if they reach my criteria such as price movement and volume. Now if I could just get Doug to post them a day earlier so that I could catch the initial price move....LOL.. many thanks for those posts Doug they have made my yearHope this helps, but always remember due dilligence is the most important part of your trading basis.ray
Oh BTW, I rarely hold a stock longer than 6 months and usually 1 day to 6 weeks is normal, so Dougs posts have worked for me as a short term trader...ray
Ray,Thanks a lot for the info. I have been in the market for a couple of years now and have mainly just stuck with the buy and hold method. I took a look over the performance of the upgrades/downgrades since the posting. As far as short term trading, what are you looking for in the stock? Are you looking for a high volume stock with somewhat high volatility? Do the companies financials factor in to which stocks you select even though you are only owning the stock for a short period? Do you have a gain/loss at which you automatically sell? Also, where is the best place to read on this investment strategy as I would like to start becoming a little bit more of an active trader (but want to get the basics first). Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated.Cameron
Cameron:You can find loads of useful information in the FAQ of the Daytrading Den http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=23429658Much of what you find there applies equally to short term trading. Look on the right side bar directly under the Announcements logo. ~aj
Cameron,I will post in depth on my current style and ideas later but here is a thread that is from "Devils Den" from a few years ago and it is still applies today, of course none of the stocks are in my current ports.http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=12436343&sort=wholeray

good lord man!thats a hell of a commute! No kidding, 65 miles each way. Luckily I am able to do 4 days per week and have a flexible schedule to avoid most of the traffic. Although not being a morning person makes it hard to get out of the house by 4:30am!dt
