I don't think this a panacea. All things must pass; just because a company has been raising its dividends for 25+ years doesn't mean that you should buy its stock blind with the assumption that will necessarily continue down the same road. Circumstances change. there is no guaranteed/certain path.


Who said it was a guaranteed path?

As the saying goes: "The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet."

Of course, you could fill your 401k with start ups & dogs of the DOW. But if you do plan on keeping the day job a while longer.

And if you're planning on retiring someday may I recommend (again) letting your dividend paying winners run (& reinvest the dividends i.e. DRIP) while buying new stocks with new money?
