The Securities and Exchange Commission - http://www.sec.gov
If you're investing, I sincerely hope you at least have an idea of what they do.

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants - http://www.aicpa.org
Interesting information and some great links in their links section

The Financial Accounting Standards Board - http://www.fasb.org
The accounting standards setting body. The site has been given a new look/features in the past few months and is far more useful than when I was in school. They've now added summaries to everyone of the SFAS'.

The International Accounting Standards Board - http://www.iasb.org.uk
Much like the FASB but for the international scene. They're more of an advisory board to all the other nations standards boards though they think they are more than that.

The Internal Revenue Service - http://www.irs.gov
Not about auditing but who doesn't think about accounting and think about the IRS?
