Vanguard charges you $80 a year for a brokerage account under $100,000, and you need that to buy CDs. I really should transfer my small Smith Barney account to Vanguard to bring the value above $100,000. Actually at one time it was above $100,000, but the bear market has taken care of that.I'm holding lots of money in cash earning,essentially, no interest thinking preservation of capital, but that is true only if the inflation rate is zero.brucedoe Ummmm.... I have a brokerage account at Vanguard and I don't think they are charging me $80 a year for it. At least this is the first I've ever heard of it if they are. AM
