We are looking for the best interest rates for our savings and it is possible to find banks with 1.0-1.1% rates.

CIT Bank and Sallie Mae are examples.

The web sites say they are FDIC insured, but before I put significant money in these banks I would like to be sure they are legitimate and do have FDIC insurance.

I found them on Bankrate.com which seems like a good sign.

Any suggestions on how to be sure?

Thanks,

Adagiopop
