Vermonter"Cruises? You can have 'em."

Be happy there are cruises...otherwise, you'd have another million tourists flooding VT for the fall 'leaf season' and in the winter at the ski areas and in the summer to enjoy the mountains and lakes....and the traffic would be horrendous.

Cruises are cheap mass entertainment .......for the tens of millions who do them each year...... and folks can gamble, lose their money, drink and drink and eat and eat and eat....get sunburn...get ripped off on Duty Free junk at the ports of call.....and the tourist traps for entertainment for the 4 hours they are ashore..... is cheap entertainment.

Just like folks go to Vegas......yeech.....I've been to two conventions there...spent all of a dollar , changed into nickels, plus the free dollar or two in freebies, in the casino..then left....really stupid folks wasting their life's savings and weekly the millions.....and thinking they are 'having fun'......

the food is decent if you can stand the lines and the hassles..... the rooms are chap....but if it weren't for the'd never find me in Vegas......

I remember going to Aruba with my friend Sue......90% of the conversation with anyone was 'where are you going for dinner tonight'? duh! seemed it was about the only activity, other than 'shows' at the local hotels - nothing special - that folks cared about. bask in the sun all day long.....some went to the casinos and lost a bundle...but everyone talked about 'we are eating at XXX tonight....or we ate at YYYY last night' if eating was the sole pre occupation of all the folks who traveled there.

In 2 days you could see the island end to end...well, really a a car....and you could see it all in a day....if you took your could stretch it to two days.

We ate half our meals at the casino meals.....and avoided every single one of the 'name restaurants' that everyone was so fascinated by...and , of course, all the food was imported since Aruba had no farming industry and no meat it was all frozen...... and VERY VERY expensive......20 years ago it was $25 for it's probably $50 for dinner....

I'm a cheap traveler....

The last time I 'blew the budget' was down in Houston at the Vintage Radio Convention......decided to check out the morning buffet...big mistake..... it was advertised for $13...but they got you another $3 for coffee....and add on 17% tax....and a tip...and it was close to $20.....but it was a good buffet with eggs 3 different ways, a ton of fresh fruit, cereal hot and cold, bacon, sausage, ham....cheees...... I ate enough calories for the entire day....had 10oz OJ, half a banana, bowl of oatmeal, pile of eggs, a breakfast taco, a load of bacon.....enough to fill up Artimus.... but I should have headed out the 3 miles to Denny's for 1/4th the cost..... but I sat with half a dozen folks at the convention and we yakked for an was my 'bust the budget' meal for the quarter....

You could pig out for half that at the local buffet here.......a
well, maybe $13 including tax and tip.....

The Hilton hotel was of course 18% total tax......pushing $100.....I decided to go at the last minute....they didn't have any 'convention rate rooms' at $79/night.....they wanted 99 bucks a night....I asked for AARP/AAA/senior discount.....well....after a few minutes..they came up with $79.25 rate....OK...big deal....had to pay $0.25 more...heh heh.....usually stay at the convention hotel.....too much hassle to travel to nearby Motel you got a place to crash easily if you get tired......
