Due to the claim by a Mass. bio-tech firm that they have
cloned human embryos, Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) and
Senate Republican Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) will attempt to
win Senate approval of legislation to prevent the cloning of
human embryos on Monday, Dec. 3.

Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) however, has
declared his support for experimental cloning (the cloning
of human embryos to kill them, commonly called "therapeutic
cloning") and is working to block any measure that would
restrict the cloning of embryos.

This conflict has led to a complicated procedural situation,
which will end with an important procedural vote on Monday,
December 3, at 5 p.m. EST.

Senators Lott and Brownback have offered an amendment
banning all human cloning for six months, to a popular bill
railroad pensions bill that is moving through the Senate.
