I am debating (asset)transferring some $$ from VFINX(IRA) to Vanguards Long Term Treasury Fund. Am 11%, more or less, ytd neg in the 500 index and want to make at least something something in 2001. Will then take the interest generated on the bond fund as ira distribution, deposited right into a money market.I am past 59.5.

I am a TRUE FOOL on bond funds, previous to 2000 not considering them as worthy IRA vehicles. But now I am older, poorer, and trying to be wiser. Wouldn't I choose the bond fund with the highest YTD (being almost 12 months) with returns in the 1/5/10 years also showing positive? What else should I consider?

Your insights are welcome.
Respectfully,
Sheila
