Wal*Mart proposed the "Neighborhood Store" Program in mid 1999. The stores would be typically 45 to 60 thousand square feet. The conception of the program was founded upon being able to "drop in" a store in areas that could not support a typical center or Supercenter. It was at that time planned to be a seperate division from either the Wal*Marts and Supercenters. It was considered by many managers as being a bring between the "Bush Stores and Division One"
