While I'm neglecting my thesis... It's easy to do, the software I'm using has so many glitches I'm tempted to take the I... Here goes.

"Jim turned off the light."

Is there a prepositional phrase in this sentence?

I think not. "Off" functions as an adjective. If we recast the sentence as "Jim turned the light off" we can see that it works the same way as "Jim painted the door blue."

To see that "off" can be an adjective, consider "The light is off."
